Show time: 9 PM
Venue: Knitting factory
Food: Fette Sau
Drink: Spuyten Duyvil

Celebrate the life of Biggie Smalls at Hip-Hop Karaoke NYC - 4th Annual Tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. and sing along to all his hits and represent. If you’re feeling German BBQ, you can head over to Fette Sau (fat pig in German), where the owners of nearby bar Spuyten Duyvil have opened up this meat only restaurant serving up some of the best pork and beef in NYC. For drinks, Spuyten Duyvil is a beer lovers dream, with a selection from all over the world, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders and a neighborhood feel, it’s no wonder this place has been so successful. If you’re still ready for more, you must hit Union Pool, where there’s always a band playing, great DJs and plenty of action.

Saturday March 13

Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn
Band: Sissy Spacek
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: Issue Project Room
Food: El Viejo Yayo
Drink: Buttermilk Bar
Miscellaneous: The Chocolate Room

By way of California, Sissy Spacek (not the actress by any means) play a mashing of grindcore and other core styles that you might call noise, but live they are absolutely insane, leaving everything onstage broken. In other words, lots of adrenaline and pieces everywhere. Keeping the night going, try El Viejo Yayo for dinner. This gorgeous and warm restaurant has an elegant dining room and an affordable menu offering Dominican/Latin cuisine. The outside of Buttermilk Bar may look non-descript, but looks can be deceiving . . . just not in this case, as this low-key watering hole is where you can grab a cheap drink in a friendly atmosphere while playing a board game or two. With a near-insane menu of chocolates from coffee and tea to delectable dessert, and even beer, The Chocolate Room is a great way to end the night on a high note.

Sunday March 14

Location: Upper West Side, NYC
Art: The Grateful Dead
Show time: See website for schedule; Through July 4
Venue: New York Historical Society
Food: Swizz Restaurant & Wine Bar
Drink: Café des Artistes
Miscellaneous: Magnolia Bakery

The first large-scale exhibition of materials from The Grateful Dead archive, it chronicles the band’s history through art, original documents, performance footage and productions.
While Swizz has an extensive wine menu and a downstairs cave, it’s the cheese that people come here for. Fondue lovers, Swizz Restaurant & Wine Bar is the place to go and the menu is just as extensive as its wine. It's romantic and cheesy. Get it?! Café des Artistes is one of those old historic bars that’s as New York as it gets. This bar/restaurant was the meeting place of artists going all the way back to 1917. Today, it serves up new American dishes and cocktails to those in the know. To soothe your sweet tooth, check the uptown location of Magnolia Bakery and sink your teeth into one of the city’s best cupcakes.

Short & Sweet NYC Friday 12th

Friday March 12

Location: Union Square, NYC
Event: Henry Rollins Get Tickets Here
Show time: 9 PM
Venue: The Fillmore at Irving Plaza
Food: Maritime's Matsuri
Drink: Hiro
Miscellaneous: Cha An Japanese Tea House

Start off the evening at Maritime's Matsuri*, with Chef Tadashi Ono’s highly acclaimed Japanese food (*make a reservation). At Matsuri, the fish is freshly flown in from Japan daily. I highly recommend the sushi with one of over 200 kinds of sake they stock. After dinner, head to the Japanese-themed bar Hiro for a dimly lit cocktail to lubricate your mind before the show. Henry Rollins, former Black Flag singer—and current actor and writer traveling the world and reporting back to us on stages everywhere—makes his way back to NY on “Frequent Flyer Tour,” recanting stories with wit from his worldwide travels. After trying to gather yourself from your mind expansion you might want to head down to Cha An Japanese Tea House to sip some Matcha tea and calm yourself down.

Friday March 12

Location: Midtown West, NYC
Bands: Some Enchanted Evening: A Musical Tribute to Broadway
Show time: 5:30 PM
Venue: American Folk Art Museum
Food: Wichcraft
Drink: Subway Inn
Miscellaneous: Kinokuniya Bookstore

At Some Enchanted Evening: A Musical Tribute to Broadway, the American Folk Art Museum celebrates all things Broadway with classic show tunes and contemporary Broadway favorites. Join them as singers from Mamma Mia, Chicago, Title of Show, West Side Story, Shrek and more regale you with songs and stories of their "Life Upon The Wicked Stage." The concept of Wichcraft may sound easy, as it's a gourmet sandwich chain created by Top Chef judge and restaurateur Tom Colicchio, but the ingredients are to die for and a must try if you’re in the neighborhood. The first time I went to Subway Inn I thought it was completely strange that there was a dive bar off Lexington Avenue, especially in this neck of the woods, but somehow it works. Born in the ‘30s, this bar has somehow remained—and thank God—as it’s easily the cheapest place in the area for a drink. For fans of Japanese pop culture, Kinokuniya Bookstore has a large selection of Japanese themed books, videos, CDs, magazines, comics and stationary.

Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse RIP
Reported By: Kevchino
Deeply shocked and saddened by the news that Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse took his own life. He was one of my favorite musicians. In his long career in music he had worked with Thom Yorke of Radiohead, David Lynch, The Flaming Lips, Danger Mouse, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, Daniel Johnston and many more amazing artists. His beautiful music will not be forgotten. Here is a link to a brief interview I did with Mark back in 2003.

Hannis Browns debut video entitled Oh Ah Ee
Reported By: Kevchino

The opening song "Oh Ah Ee" from Hannis Brown's debut album entitled, Oh Ah Ee is set to be released April 6th, 2010. The video was directed by Erin Levendorf and Austin Kennedy. Brown's music combines weird indie rock with the controlled chaos of groups like Battles and Dirty Projectors, explosions of free jazz and aleatoric new music. To preview a few more songs off the debut LP, visit www.myspace.com/hannisbrown.

A DJ who’s a maestro of sound in his own right, RJD2’s new album The Colossus is completely inventive, grabbing from all over the musical spectrum while still making it his own. Also on the bill are Break Science and Happy Chichester. With one of the best burgers in Williamsburg, Dumont Burger offers theirs with gourmet toppings, in addition to sandwiches, salads and their amazing mac & cheese. So you consider yourself a beer connoisseur and like to party? You can do all that and eat at Radegast Hall & Biergarten. The Austrian/German menu perfectly compliments the 12 beers on tap and more than 30 German and Austrian bottles at this large beer hall. One of the oldest and best hipster hangout coffee shops, The Verb Cafe offers up excellent coffee and baked goods, a boho vibe and big windows to watch the days pass while collecting unemployment!

Saturday March 6

Location: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Band: Ikebe Shakedown
Show time: 10 PM
Venue: Rose Live Music
Food: Egg
Drink: Savalas
Miscellaneous: Fabiane’s Café & Pastry Shop

If you like your Afrobeat down and dirty then Ikebe Shakedown, a Brooklyn-based collective of musicians will get you off your ass and on the dancefloor. Get some of the best egg omelets in Williamsburg at Egg, like the Eggs Rothko ($8.50) with an easy-cooked egg in a slice of Amy's brioche and topped with Grafton cheddar. Plus they have a dinner menu with the likes of fried chicken! If you’re looking to dance afterwards, Savalas has both great DJs and drink specials on top of delivering on the fun factor. Fabiane’s Café & Pastry Shop is a great little cafe in the heart of Williamsburg that’s great for not too late night people watching. Try one of their fantastic desserts or sip coffee and stare at the passing hipsters.

Sunday March 7

Location: Midtown West, NYC
Theater: The Tempest
Show time: See website for details; Through March 13
Venue: BAM Harvey Theater
Food: Junior’s
Drink: O’Connor’s
Miscellaneous: Thomas Beisl

As part of BAM’s three-year Bridge Project, where British and American actors join forces to perform together in some of Shakespeare’s greatest works, Sam Mendes directs The Tempest, starring Michelle Beck, Christian Camargo, Stephen Dillane, Ron Cephas Jones, Juliet Rylance and Thomas Sadoski. Known more for its cheesecake than anything else on its menu, Junior’s also offers fantastic diner and deli style eats from steak burgers to deli sandwiches. If you can make it through dinner, the cheesecake will be worth the wait! One of Brooklyn’s most interesting dive bars, O’Connor’s offers cheap drinks in a place where Park Slope hipsters meet old-time drinkers, making for one of the oddest pairings that works. An excellent place to get schnitzel and goulash and other Austrian delights, Thomas Beisl is right across the street from BAM.

Short & Sweet NYC Friday March 5th
Reported By: DaVe Lipp
Friday March 5

Location: Lower East Side, NYC
Band: Emily Jane White
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: The Living Room
Food: San Loco
Drink: Max Fish
Miscellaneous: Sugar Sweet Sunshine

With an awesomely distinctive voice, Emily Jane White makes a spooky good blend of folk dusted with blues in a gothic way. San Loco may not serve the greatest Mexican food ever, but it certainly isn’t bad. The prices are inexpensive—you can get a heaping amount of nachos for as little as $3.75—and telling by the heavy traffic, the place is doing just fine. What I like about Max Fish is that it’s a local bar for local artists, whose walls host monthly art exhibitions. There’s a pool table in the back, and drinks aren’t pricey—unlike many new bars springing up in this neighborhood. For one of the best cupcakes in the city, Sugar Sweet Sunshine has 10 varieties, in addition to cakes. Try the Sexy Red Velvet or the Bob, a yellow cupcake with chocolate almond buttercream.

Friday March 5

Location: Union Square, NYC
Event: Subterranean Get Tickets Here
Show time: 10 PM
Venue: D-Lounge
Food: Chat ‘N’ Chew
Drink: Pete’s Tavern
Miscellaneous: Whole Foods

The terraNOVA Collective presents Subterranean, a monthly variety show celebrating music, spoken word, burlesque, magic, storytelling, short play readings and vaudeville acts. This one features Micia Mosely (Nursha Project) hosting with performances by spoken word artist Roger Bonair-Agard (MASQUERADE: calypso and home), comedian Carolyn Castiglia (NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, Brown Ambition) and performance artist Red Summer (Two Fingers Press, Nursha Project). For food with a Southern flair in Union Square, Chat N’ Chew makes some kickass fried chicken, pork-chops and meatloaf. In the running for oldest bar in NYC, Pete’s Tavern has been around since 1864 and was made famous by author O. Henry who wrote “Gift of the Magi,” in one of its booths. One good thing about the Union Square location of Whole Foods is that it’s not only a reprieve from this tourist heavy area, but with its huge windows, you can sit, get healthy organic food and drink, and watch the insanity like it’s a movie.

Saturday February 27

Location: Upper West Side, NYC
Event: Tibet House 20th Annual Benefit Concert
Show time: 7:30 PM
Venue: Carnegie Hall
Food: Gordon Ramsey at the London
Drink: Social
Miscellaneous: Brooklyn Diner

Commemorating the Monlam Prayer Festival traditionally held at the time of the Tibetan New Year, the Tibet House 20th Annual Benefit Concert will be led by artistic director Philip Glass, and will include Iggy Pop, Patti Smith with Jesse Smith, Regina Spektor, Gogol Bordello, Pierce Turner, Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew and Tenzin Kunsel. Everyone’s favorite celebrity chef, who most are likely afraid of, Gordon Ramsey serves a three-course French menu with international flare at Gordon Ramsey at the London. Make reservations early and wear a jacket, as the place only has 45 seats. If you’ve seen his shows, I’m sure you know that you don’t want to piss off this chef! Social, a three floor bar and lounge is big enough to never get bored in and is a great place in that area of town to drink and, well, you know the rest! Finding a restaurant that isn't super expensive and serves good home style food in Midtown can be a chore, but at Brooklyn Diner, they hit the spot for really great food with an old school diner feel.

Bands: The English Beat + Fishbone Get Tickets Here
Show time: 7 PM
Venue: The Fillmore at Irving Plaza
Food: Maritime's Matsuri
Drink: Hiro
Miscellaneous: Cha An Japanese Tea House

Looks like ska is making a comeback . . . again. And leading the pack, at least at this show, is The English Beat, who put out some amazing music in their heyday. But the band to watch is Fishbone, who have been putting on high energy performances for over two decades and show no sign of stopping. Catch them any chance you get to see how a band should incite a live crowd. After working up an appetite, head over to Maritime's Matsuri*, with Chef Tadashi Ono’s highly acclaimed Japanese food (*be sure to make a reservation). At Matsuri the fish is so fresh because it’s flown in from Japan daily. I highly recommend the sushi with one of over 200 kinds of sake they stock. After trying to gather yourself after your night of fun, you might want to head down to Cha An Japanese Tea House to sip some Matcha tea and calm yourself down.

Sunday February 28

Location: Lower East Side, NYC
Film: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Show time: 12 AM
Venue: Landmark Sunshine Cinema
Food: Paladar
Drink: Pianos
Miscellaneous: Motor City Bar

Before Tim Burton and Johnny Depp got their hands on Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory—the classic story of Charlie Bucket, who won one of five golden tickets to tour the secretive chocolate factory, owned by the very quirky Willy Wonka—Gene Wilder owned that movie, and this original version of the film is arguably still the better of the two. With a Pan-Latin menu, Paladar offers traditional Spanish dishes with a twist in a fun and funky atmosphere. Try the Salmon a la Plancha Pan, a seared salmon with spring vegetable picadillo & serrano-ramp vinaigrette ($17). If you still want to party afterwards, a good place for that is Pianos. A lounge in front, rock club in back, and a DJ dance party on the second floor, Pianos is a good place to party hard. Though loud, Motor City Bar is an homage to Detroit as license plates and other car parts adorn the walls, the DJs here play “THE ROCK” all night, and the vibe has everyone on the lookout for a good time.

Band: A Sunny Day in Glasgow
Show time: 9 PM
Venue: Mercury Lounge
Food: Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant
Drink: Verlaine
Miscellaneous: Gus’s Pickles

You may think that A Sunny Day in Glasgow are from Scotland, but the band is actually from Philadelphia, and are known for blending an awesome amount of dreamy guitars and pop melodies making some beautiful songs. For din-din, check out Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant. They serve up sandwiches, omelets and baked goods for breakfast and lunch. But for dinner, expect the likes of pan seared halibut with sweet corn succotash, herb roasted tomatoes and summer squash ($19). Named after the poet Paul Verlaine, Verlaine offers an Asian food and drink menu. While you can’t order the absinthe that probably helped kill the poet, you can order drinks like the El Chupacabra, which is better tasting with a kick of its own. If you like pickles, Gus’s Pickles has been around since 1910. It’s a landmark spot, and still makes a great pickle.

The Shins frontman & Danger Mouse team up
Reported By: Kevchino
James Mercer of The Shins and Brian Burton a/k/a Danger Mouse release the self-titled first album by their new band Broken Bells on Columbia Records March 9, 2010. The band will make its first ever television appearance that same day on The Late Show with David Letterman.

The record's release will be previewed by full length streaming previews NPR.org/music and Myspace.com beginning March 1, marking the first time the two sites have shared such a debut event.

In addition to standard CD, LP and digital versions, Broken Bells will also be released in a limited edition one-of-a-kind music box configuration available at finer music retailers. The record will also be available at Starbucks locations.

Broken Bells' release week will continue apace with another TV appearance and two special intimate live performances: The band will make its New York live debut March 10 at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg, followed by a March 11 appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and a March 14 one-off at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The following week the band will play NPR's SXSW opening night gala at Stubbs in Austin TX alongside Spoon, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Walkmen and more.

Broken Bells' release has been preceded by overwhelmingly positive critical response, with Rolling Stone awarding the album a 4-star lead review and and previously running a Hot List lead on the single "The High Road," while Wired called it "crazy good stuff," Laist.com remarked of the band's recent live debut "Try to imagine what (Broken Bells) might sound like and your expectations would be met and likely exceeded."

Broken Bells features Mercer on vocals, guitars and bass while Burton plays organ, drums, piano, synths and bass. The pair play all the instruments on the album with the exception of a full string section arranged by Daniele Luppi. Broken Bells was recorded by Todd Monfalcone and Kennie Takahashi at Mondo Studio in Los Angeles and produced by Danger Mouse.

Each a long-time fan of the other's work, Burton and Mercer first met face-to-face backstage at the 2004 Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen. The pair immediately hit it off and kept in touch over the prevailing half decade and in May 2008 seized the opportunity to finally collaborate on original music together. Broken Bells was pared down from more than 20 pieces of new music written and recorded to the 10 songs that coalesced together the most seamlessly.

Public Image LTD aka PiL Tour Dates
Reported By: Kevchino
Since returning in December 2009 for seven monumental concerts in the United Kingdom–their first shows in 17 years–PUBLIC IMAGE LTD (PiL) now continue into 2010 with a headlining North American tour starting Saturday, April 17 in San Francisco.

After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. With their experimental sound fusing Rock, Dance, Folk, Ballet, Pop and Dub, PiL are regarded as producing some of the most diverse music of the 70s and 80s. As a band, the music and vision constantly evolved like no other, culminating in an incredible live experience.

The North American tour will be preceded by a special performance at the COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL on Friday, April 16 (opening day of the three-day event) in Indio, CA. It marks their first show in the United States in 18 years.

Cited as one of the most innovative and influential bands in music history, PiL return to a country where they enjoyed a special relationship throughout their career for what are set to be stunning shows. The North American dates will be followed by a series of high-profile summer European Festival appearances.

John Lydon (vocals), Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) and Scott Firth (bass) earned critical and public acclaim for their concerts in December 2009, with many British media outlets championing them as the shows of the year.

John Lydon: “I sound like a bag of kittens thrown down the staircase.”

2010 sees the 30th anniversary of the band’s first U.S. tour and also their U.S TV debut on “American Bandstand,” where singer John Lydon invited the audience onstage to dance with the band! Host Dick Clark famously introduced their appearance as "a memorable moment in rock n roll, something special and interesting.”

Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn
Event: Jersey Shore Dance Party
Show time: 12 AM; FREE
Venue: Union Hall
Food: Chiles & Chocolate Oaxacan Kitchen
Drink: The Gate
Miscellaneous: Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.

Whether you’re a fan of MTV’s Jersey Shore or a true guido/guidette, celebrate the show that made the stereotype an accident you just couldn’t help but watch every week at the Jersey Shore Dance Party. Come dressed up as your favorite character or as a guido and a winner will be chosen for best costume. Ever have Oaxacan food? Chiles & Chocolate Oaxacan Kitchen serves up some fantastic, not-exactly-Mexican food. Try the smoky flavored Mole Negro, one of the best mole sauces I’ve had in NYC. Before leaving, you must try one of the hot chocolates – like the Chiles Y Chocolate. A hint of chipotle without too much heat is a nice kick start for the night. The Gate is a great Park Slope bar with excellent beers on tap and an outdoor courtyard to chill in. If time permits, you must—and I mean MUST—go to the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co., a non-profit organization that helps kids with their writing, and is fronted by a store selling super powers.

Saturday February 20

Location: Meatpacking District, NYC
Comedy: Tom Green
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: Comix
Food: Spice Market
Drink: Plunge
Miscellaneous: Little Pie Company (located at 407 W14th St.)

Canadian comic Tom Green returns, bringing his slapstick comedy (remember The Tom Green Show and when he was a rapper?) to the stage. For dinner, if you can get a table, check out Spice Market. Chef and owner Jean-Georges Vongerichten converted this HUGE space into one of the sexiest Asian restaurants in NYC. Serving up exquisite dishes like the onion and chili crusted short ribs with egg noodles and pea shoots ($22), Spice Market impresses. If you choose not to stay at APT for drinks, close by is Plunge. Located at the top of the Hotel Gansevoort, this rooftop lounge offers stunning views of the city. If dessert is your thing, stop over at Little Pie Company, where pies are baked on-site. Whether you’re in the mood for sour cream apple, southern pecan or Mississippi mud pie, you can’t go wrong here.

For an eclectic menu that mixes upscale and down-home food, Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar, a wine bar and restaurant, offers lighter fare including foie gras, cheese plates, caviar, and steak tartare. The Village Tavern is a really comfortable neighborhood bar that’s great for catching sports games or just chilling for a drink, which is what I prefer to do when I’m in the vicinity. Also in the area is Bleeker Bob’s . It’s one of the oldest independent record stores in NYC and the selection is deep. The place looks a mess, but the staff is surprisingly friendly and extremely knowledgeable about what they have.

Friday February 19

Location: Midtown West, NYC
Bands: Editors Get Tickets Here
Show time: 7 PM
Venue: Terminal 5
Food: Island Burgers and Shakes
Drink: Smith’s Bar
Miscellaneous: Colony Music

On the Editors’ new album In This Light and On This Evening, the guys take their signature dance rock and push the envelope with a New Order feel. Check them live on their U.S. tour. For a kickass burger or chicken sandwich, Island Burgers and Shakes specializes in making great burgers like the Bourbon Street Burger that’s blackened, with bacon, Jack, bayou mayo, and onion on sourdough. One cheap bar in midtown, Smith’s Bar is a dive bar with cheap booze, friendly locals, and live music daily in the next room. Though the place is way expensive, Colony Music is a fun music store that sells albums and sheet music. You can walk around and check out the entertainment memorabilia. Whether you’re looking for a guitar signed by the Rolling Stones or an autographed 8x10 of Linda Carter, they’ve got it.

Friday February 19

Location: West Village, NYC
Bands: FlyinFisch Get Tickets Here
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: Sullivan Hall
Food: Tortilla Flats
Drink: White Horse Tavern
Miscellaneous: Magnolia Bakery

Adrian Fischer heads up Flyin’ Fisch and blends reggae, Afro-Caribbean and pop rock that shows off some great worldy influences. Dinner before a show like this should be just as awesome. Check out Tortilla Flats. The food is Mexican and delicious, but it’s the insanity within (bingo and hula-hoop nights) that is the real calling for this place. For drinks afterwards, hit the White Horse Tavern, a great bar and the old haunting grounds for Dylan Thomas. If you somehow have time before all of this, stop by Magnolia Bakery for some of the best tasting cupcakes in the city.

Now and Then: Jonsi
Reported By: Nick Greto
Jonsi is the vocalist for the Icelandic mellow rockers Sigur Ros. But that band is taking a break from music. And Jonsi can’t have that.

His new video is much, much different than his other band. That’s not to say it shouldn’t be listened to, because it definitely should be.

Here’s our first taste, a song called “Go Do.” And the lyrics are in English!

Here’s an old Sigur Ros tune called, “Glósóli.” Lyrics are not in English!

“[The Sasquatch! Festival is] a pick-your-poison selection for your party at the edge of the earth.”—SPIN

The 2010 Sasquatch! Music Festival will proudly feature the recently reunited Pavement, Massive Attack, My Morning Jacket, Ween, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Kid Cudi, LCD Soundsystem, The National, Band of Horses and many others. With The Office’s Craig Robinson and The Daily Show’s Rob Riggle, this year’s Sasquatch! Festival also presents the best in up-and-coming comedic acts. Please see below for the complete festival lineup and ticket information.

Sasquatch! returns to The Gorge in Quincy, WA May 29-31 (Memorial Day Weekend) following early sellouts and rave reviews the past several years. Festival tickets are available at sasquatchfestival.com and Ticketmaster.com. Known for its bucolic location as well as its programming zeitgeist, the Sasquatch! Festival marks its ninth year at The Gorge, a concert venue built in the Columbia River Gorge and offering spectacular views of the river canyon. Tickets go on sale Saturday February 20 at 10 a.m. PST.

Festival creator Adam Zacks founded Sasquatch! in 2002 with the aim of constructing an event that catered to the eclectic tastes of voracious music enthusiasts. Zacks personally curates the lineups for each Sasquatch! Festival, hand-picking the diverse array of artists. “It’s our goal each year to present a fresh lineup that reflects the independent spirit of the Pacific Northwest, respects the artists and audience, and celebrates the grandeur of The Gorge.”

The Sasquatch! Festival has established a tradition of presenting critically acclaimed emerging artists alongside established headliners. Previous lineups have spanned a broad spectrum of genres from rock to hip-hop, electronic to singer-songwriters; past performers include R.E.M. Coldplay, Kanye West, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, The Cure, Björk, and M.I.A. The festival also has a history of incorporating comedy including performances by Flight of The Conchords, Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, and many more.

Also included on this year’s agenda are continued greening initiatives with Esurance, the title sponsor for the 2010 festival. For the past three years, the auto insurance provider has teamed up with Sasquatch! to promote a greener festival. By increasing sustainable practices at the Gorge, including an expanded recycling program, eco-friendly signage, and energy-efficient lighting, they were able to reduce the overall carbon footprint at the venue as compared to previous years. As this year’s title sponsor, Esurance continues its drive toward a planet-friendly festival by offering numerous ridesharing options with carpool partner, Zimride. Beginning with the launch party in February and following through with the festival itself in May, Esurance makes it easy for folks to share a ride and minimize environmental impacts created by such a large event.
