“emotions,” the debut album from alaska! is pure, heavy folk rock. Featuring members of the new folk implosion, sebadoh and lowercase, the Los Angeles based duo of Imaad Wasif (guitar, vocals) and Russell Pollard (bass, drums and vocals,) has recorded an album of revolutionary originality. Infectious harmonies and sinewy guitars float in a symphonic wilderness that is eclipsed only by the weight of the words. “emotions” digs the grave of the “new” new wave and paves the way for the sound of tomorrow.

alaska! began in San Francisco in the winter of 2000. Originally creating sets of acoustic songs, they soon began to explore the overtones and textures that their songs demanded, feeling the pull to blow things out and embrace epic desires. The evolution of their sound has always been an ongoing process, and since alaska! have imposed no limitations on instrumentation, this process will continue to generate the growth necessary to those willing to live and die for their music.

To date, they have had the honor of sharing bills with Mia Doi Todd, Lou Barlow, The Beachwood Sparks, The Flaming Lips and Unwound. They toured with Elliott Smith at the end of 2001 and appeared at the 10th anniversary of the San Francisco Noise Pop Festival (they have been invited back this year).

alaska! has enlisted Lesley Ishino (the red aunts) as their new drummer. They will be touring the U.S.A., Canada and Europe throughout 2003 in support of “emotions,” kicking off their first campaign with Mia Doi Todd and the new folk implosion.
