Experiencing vocalist Maura Davis’ sultry, rich vocals punch through Denali’s glacially-chilling hooks is disarming; magical. The Richmond, Virginia-based foursome hasn’t been on the map for long, but you’d never guess it from the way the group sensuously executes their brand of sang-froid lush-rock. After just a few shows and the release of a four-song demo (recorded by Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous), Denali quicky began receiving the rapt attention they deserve. The band shunned the major-label attention they were garnering and signed with Jade Tree. After intermittent touring, the band headed into the studio to hammer out their debut full length. Backed by brother Keely Davis (bass/synths), Jonathan Fuller (drums) and Richmond-scene stalwart CamDiNunzio (guitar), the foursome work seamlessly, lacing Maura's dramatic, angelic pop foundation with gritty hooks and dark-hued electro-touches. With gentle, satiny authority, Denali's towering song structures display each member's talent deftly; poingantly. Onstage, the four engage even the most chatty or dispondant of new audiences, executing their music easily; grinning.
