Harmonic 33

Electronica / Undefined

Harmonic 33 is the creation of Dave Brinkworth and Mark Pritchard. From their opulent Presshouse Studios in Devon, Mark and Dave set about creating aseries of Hip Hop tracks as a refreshing antidote to a host of long term sessions they were working on.

At the same time the guys got hold of the M-Tron which quickly became a major influence on the ensuing tracks, helping to set the scene for enough material to fill two EPs. “The M-Tron gave us just the right amount of feel and old skool vibe required for each track.” Said Dave, “We’ve used everything from the less obvious Sad Strings and Rhythms to the instantly noticeable flutes and vibes.”

The result is two superb EPs - Kaleidoscopic Sounds (Catalogue No: Alphabet Zoo 01) and Extraordinary People EP (Catalogue No: Alphabet Zoo 02) - both of which are beautifully saturated with a unique nostalgic and warm atmosphere.

To highlight what we think is some of the most creative use of the M-Tron heard to-date, and to give you an idea of what’s on these two CDs, we pestered Dave and Mark into allowing us to put a snippet from a couple of tracks off of the Extraordinary People EP on-line.

The first, Moom Pah, kicks off with one of those cheesy M-Tron rhythms, used in a wonderfully original context, before launching into the kind of laid back bass and drum groove producers such as Timberland would kill for....oh and when those Tron flutes drift in :-)

The second track, Where Have They Gone, uses the Sad Strings in order to create a widescreen cinematic effect of old skool hip hop grooves coupled with waves of nostalgia. Beautiful!
