Are you excited about finishing your new album Night Falls Over Kortedala? Yeah, it feels very fresh to me. I had my friends put it together in the end you know, so even I listen to it sometimes. It's beautiful, very... Marie Antoinette, all dressed up and sparkling.
The new album features guests Frida Hyvonen and El Perro Del Mar, who you claimed were your favorite Swedish acts. You’ve toured with them both. How was it working with the ladies on the album? They're genius. El Perro was gonna produce the album but in the end she was more like a comfortable thought in the back of my head. She was sitting behind me in her studio just nodding her head and sipping on a cup of coffee, which was all I really needed.
Please tell us a funny story. I like the story about the gaybomb. You know that story right?
No . . . I haven't heard about the Gaybomb Watch the YouTube clip about the gaybomb here
After I heard about this, things just didn't seem very funny again. It was like in that South Park episode when Cartman meets the ass-people who have asses instead of faces, and becomes suicidal because he realises that he's just experienced the funniest moment in his life. How does the writing process come together for you most often; lyrics then the music or music then the lyrics? 1. What the song is about 2. Making what the song is about true 3. Writing the song (takes about 5 mins).
How does one obtain music by Rocky Dennis? Well, the Rocky Dennis EP was originally a split single with Rocky Dennis and Jens Lekman. So "Rocky Dennis' Farewell Song" is by Rocky Dennis technically.
Do you think you’ll tour the US for the new album in late 2007? Yes ! October + November
On your prior US visits, what’s your favorite thing to eat? I like IHOP.
What’s your favorite food item in Sweden? Well, we don't have IHOP and I don't like the pancake house here, cause that place gives me the crepes... ha ha.
I’ve read some recent comments you’ve made on-line that you’re not enjoying the nightlife in Sweden. Are you thinking of moving somewhere? I like it here, it's just my neighborhood Kortedala and its nocturnal seedy underbelly. But it's ok now. I am moving to Melbourne Australia next year however, if all goes as planned. Just for a year. We saw you perform twice in NYC in 2006. Nice T-Shirts by the way! Thanks !
For one show, you performed the songs solo in the more intimate space of the Mercury Lounge. The other was a sold-out Bowery Ballroom show where you had a sexy all-girl band backing you. I really enjoyed both shows but preferred seeing you solo. Which way do you prefer performing, solo or with a full band? I like both. In NY, playing the lovely Mercury Lounge with that awesome soundguy, and a crowd that loves the music... that's amazing. But when you play some mid-west small town on a Saturday night it's always nice to have a band. What’s your favorite song you’ve written? "Friday Night at the Drive-in Bingo." Just wait ten years and it will be a summer classic.
What’s your favorite song you did not write? Bill Wells "On the Beach Boys Bus". It's a song I want to hear in church when I'm dead.
Any cooking recipes, chord progressions, pick up lines you’d like to share with the kevchino.com readers? The best pick-up line is to say "It's for you" while handing someone your phone. Then you run out into the street and call your phone and ask for a date. Works all the time.
