The French duo Air have returned with their first proper cd since the 2001 release of "10,000 Hz Legend".The result is very rewarding . Although the new cd is very mellow- the songs are quite fine. Nicholas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel mix guitar and synthesizers to create a beautiful space-pop.The lyrics are sparse and sometimes almost silly-but the whole package works well for them.The addition of Radiohead-like percussion effects enhanced the sound of "Talkie Walkie".

Some of the early cuts are very light and frothy,"Cherry Blossom Girl" is an example.The song reminds me of an early sixties pop song that you can't get out of your head.The addition of the flute is quite interesting."Mike Mills" is a beautiful instrumental. Is it named after the R.E.M. bassist? The midddle of the cd has some fine cuts."Surfing On A Rocket" and "Another Day" get into darker melodic territory.Great stuff.The cd ends with the band's fine addition to the "Lost In Translation" soundtrack called "Alone In Kyoto".This song ends "Talkie Walkie" on a beautiful and melodic note.

"Talkie Walkie" is a very mature and vibrant cd.The production touches make the cd very interesting.The drums are mellow but quirky.The keyboard sounds are very inventive. If you're looking for a rocking set-this cd is not for you.But if you prefer some mature euro-pop-electronica,"Talkie Walkie" might be right for you. The bonus dvd of concert-backstage footage is very well done.
