AM/FM consists of Philadelphia's Brian Sokel (of Franklin) and Michael Parsell whom collaborated on a amazing four song EP 'The Sky is The New Ground,' catchy title reminiscent of Kings of Convenience's 'Quite is the New Loud.'
The EP starts off with the instrumental 'Everything' with dreamy wonderland guitar compositions, mesmerizing the listener's into their lush and intricate orchestrations.
The second track 'Gone In Three' starts off with Yo La Tengo-ish feel with sizzling guitar leads, dramatic drumming and samples galore.
'Mrs. Astronaut' with kalaidoscope-ing guitars, with Perry Ferrel-esque, (Porno for Pyro era) swirling vocals. The song dramatically waltz's between quite and loud.
The dreamy 'All to Remember' Sokel sings 'Every Day You're Running Scared,' with a vocal likeness of Jason Pierce's from Spiritualized. The track is richly laden with beautiful guitar, and keyboard melodies.
Not a bad track on this nicely produced EP. 'The Sky is The New Ground,' left me eager to hear more AM/FM. If you like The Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo, Spiritualized pick this up immediately!
