There is a phenomenon with many artists where their debut album is the best album they come out with because they have that hunger and determination to bring a classic effort right away and establish themselves in the industry. Anom (An Open Mind) in his debut album “So It’s Come To This…” may have forced himself into this position as well, not because he won’t come out with more incredible albums in the future, but because this album will be very hard to top.
It’s very hard to decide what the best track on this album is, however there are easily a few standout songs. “Makin’ Moves (Right Now)” combines Anom’s great flow and wordplay with an incredible artistic production that adds different elements throughout the track supplanting the lyrics and giving them free reign to gain momentum and emotion. Spittin’ lyrics covering many different subjects, this song is a great jumpstart to the album (after an interesting short flow for an introduction).
“The Sun’ll Rise Like Yesterday” is another track that is a candidate for constant repeat. A much more relaxed tempo and production ensemble creates the venue for a very introspective and intensely lyrical effort from Anom. Speaking about today’s issues, especially the war in Iraq, the lyrical flow is on point, and the rhymes are incredibly intelligent and well thought out.
Other songs like the title track, and “I Heard It All Before” with its gain in intensity and addition of hard guitars at the end, make this album definitely a candidate for one of the best of the year. The honesty and skills exhibited on this album, keep the listener’s ear glued to the speakers. Hopefully this album will be noticed in an industry that is being flooded with music with no meaning, and we will hear much more from Anom in the future. |
