7 Audio Bullys Generation Astralwerks | 2006 | Album Biography Comments (0) Read Full Page Digg Review Add del.icio.us   "Generation" is the second full length cd from the British electro-duo Audio Bullys. They have created a new sub-genre of music that I have called bloke-tronica. This is the perfect dance music for the dudes in that movie "Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels". Singer Simon Franks sings/raps in a very cockney accent about being a tough guy in a tough world. My first exposure to the Audio Bullys came through hearing their "Back To Mine" compilation where artists make a mix cd, Their choices included Madness, The Stranglers, The Specials, Marvin Gaye and The Beach Boys. Quite a diverse and entertaining bunch of tunes! So I was interesting in hearing what the Audio Bullys cd was like. The first song on "Generation" is basically a remix of the very old Nancy Sinatra song "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)". The Audio Bullys add some great beats and a nice riff to the original version. "Keep On Moving" employs the cockney rap of Simon Franks and uses samples from "Midnight Cruiser" by Steely Dan. "This Road" has guest vocals by Suggs of Madness. This is very nice keyboard based pop song. The two best songs are the mellow "I'm In Love" and "Struck By The Sound". The sax in "Struck By The Sound" has a great ska feel. The Audio Bullys will probably appeal to fans of Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers. They are kind of like Air for tough guys. The duo of Tom Dinsdale and Simon Franks have a nice sound – but there is nothing super- memorable about "Generation". The singing is kind of weak. On the plus side- the production and sounds are quite good. Maybe they will do the soundtrack for "Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels 2" if it ever gets made. J.
