"Miles To Go" is billed as an electronica/dance/chillout cd, but I found
Billy Paul Williams music closer to smooth jazz. There are elements of
electronic/dance music on the disc ( a continuous mix/ambient textures
etc.) , but fans of a mellow funky jazz would enjoy this collection the most.
The musicianship is top notch. Billy Paul Williams seem to play every
instrument under the sun. His guitar and bass playing is quite exceptional.
"Aurinko Paistaa" has a great latin feel. Vocals by Kirsi are spare and
almost spoken. They fit this fine track very well. "So In Love" opens with
a breakbeat and a sample. Guest vocals by Charlotte Mckinnon are a
repeating chorus. The guitar playing by Billy Paul Williams is quite tasty.
"Celebrate" is a fine slice of uptown funk. Billy's guitar playing reminds
me of George Benson on this track. The piano fills are truly wonderful.
Melodic and funky- a great combo.
Billy Paul Williams is a truly great musician. He plays bass in Shakira's
and Chayenne's touring bands."Miles To Go" is an impressive cd for the
right audience. I am not the biggest fan of the smooth jazz genre, but
"Miles To Go" is an impressive disc.
