Remember when rock and roll was fun? When parents despised it because of its corruption of America's youth. Mainstream music is now emo or pretentious indie rock or hip hop. Sometimes Radiohead just doesn't cut it when you want to go out party, get drunk, and get laid. Bling Kong are bringing all that back with their debut Do the Awesome.
A cross between the B52s, 80s hair metal, and a demented high school pep rally, Bling Kong are making rock and roll that is fun again. The band consists of three drummers, four cheerleaders, two guitarists, a bassist, and a video dj. That's right Bling Kong is an 11 member piece almost giving the Polyphonic Spree a run for their money.
Do the Awesome is filled with songs and cheers about partying and getting laid are what rock music needs. "We Got the Bling" a rocking rally cry for their female fans. With lines sung by Bling Kong cheerleaders "all the guys want to bang me/all the girls want to be me", it is apparent Bling Kong leave nothing to the imagination.
The cheerleaders might be a bit distracting, but Bling Kong are actually clever songwriters, and respectable musicians. "A Song I Know", a bouncy tune with vocal harmonizing, synthesizers, and describes everyone's desire when they go to a show or concert. On "Enter Bling Kong", the band takes on dance punk with such intensity, its almost impossible to not get up and dance.
Do The Awesome is only a taste of what will be expected of this band. Just over the top rock and roll is what they are about, and over the top is what you get. So why not just let yourself go and have some fun. Bling Kong dares you. |
