Social Distortion fans I have found your new favorite band. The band I am speaking of is Bombshell Rocks from Sweden with their new album entitled From Here and On released on Epitaph records in association with Burning Heart Records. Bombshell Rocks bring together post modern rock with a punk drive. The best part about Bombshell Rocks is the fact that they aren’t whiney nor do they have 13 songs all about girls (i.e. all punk bands in the mainstream today). The band consists of: lead singer Marten Cedergran, Richard Andersson who plays guitar and sings backup, Crippe Maatta who also plays guitar and sings backup, Mathias Lind who plays Bass, and Thomas Falk on the drums. These musicians all together bring a solid upbeat melodic solidarity to their unique sound.
This album is definitely a change from the normal 28 minute punk albums out today. All the songs have shape and a direction that takes 3 to 4 minutes to take affect. Bombshell Rocks sound can be explained as almost an alternative revival with punk infusion. All the tracks have their moments but a few like on every record stand out. “On My Way”, is a solid bouncy punk song with scratchy guitars and an inspiring anthem chorus. Another solid track which also happens to be the title of the record is “From Here and On”. “From Here and On” is the side of Bombshell Rocks that is reminiscent of Social Distortion at their prime. Then again the whole album doesn’t all sound l widthis which is fortunate because the fatal mistake many bandGEke when they put out an album all the songs sound alike or there is no cohesiveness at all to it.
The overall feeling the record gives me is that this band has a lot of potential but they need to fine tune their musical direction. Their punk songs of the faster nature seem to be less pleasing than the slower antehmy songs on the album. Then again its hard to say since no one really knows what punk is anymore. For all we know Ja Rule is punk now.
