O.K.-Here's my highly debatable list of top three Cure cds/records
1."Seventeen Seconds"
2. "Faith"
3."Head On The Door"
So that’s where "Faith" fits on my ultimate Cure list. This 2 CD set includes the remastered version of the original record along with a film soundtrack that the band recorded during that era. That's only whats on the CD one. The second CD includes fifteen alterate tracks/Robert Smith demos/band demos/live tracks and a Britsh single A-side. This is definitely the holy grail for early Cure fans. The casual fan may want to search out the cheaper one disc version that has been out for years.
"Faith" is a classic of late seventies/early eighties mope rock. Along with the two Joy Division records-this CD is music to get depressed to. My favorites on the original CD are "Other Voices," "Primary" and "Faith.” Not a cheery song in the bunch-but quite gripping. "Carnage Visors" is a twenty-seven minute plus instrumental soundtrack to a film that showed before "Faith" era live shows. It was previously only available as the flip side of the import cassette version of "Faith.” It's kind of self indulgent-but the song has a nice ambient feel. Kind of like Eno on downers.
The second CD includes Robert Smith's instrumental beatbox versions of "Faith" and "Doubt.” Both are quite interesting for the diehard fans. A band instrumental called "A Normal Story" is great. The six live tracks are very good. The last song is the British single "Charlotte Sometimes.” A great song that never made it to an album.
If you are a big Cure fan-try to scrape up the money for this current crop of reissues. There are enough tasty tidbits to make it worth buying the CD’s again. Maybe trade in the old one disc version to upgrade. Quality mope rock for late night listening.
