New Zealands' The Datsuns formed in 1997 as Trinket. The following year
they transformed into The Datsuns. After making a splash with the English
music press,we now have the debut cd. This is one straight ahead RAWK
band .Loud guitars- a cocky lead singer and a bunch of attitude comprises
this debut. Every member of the band has the same last name - a la The
Ramones- but this music acts like punk never happened. This is pure 1972
hard rock.
The opening track 'sittin pretty' sets the tone for this set. Blues/rock
guitar riff- heavy drums-lots of energy- heavy rock guitar solo. Guitar rock gods
are back. 'What would I know' cops its intro riff from 'schools out' by the
Alice Cooper Band. How retro------ All in all - a pretty good hard rock number.
My favorite cut is 'harmonic generator'. The Datsuns venture into glam on
this one with nice results. Kind of like old T-Rex. Cool background vocals/ nice
riff/very catchy.
The Datsuns debut could be subtitled That 70's cd. The band is playing
music that their parents listened to in middle school. There are traces of
Slade, AC/DC and The Stooges throughout this collection. Despite the
influences, the songs are strong/the playing is tight/the singers rock-star
bravado fit the songs. When you put on The Datsuns cd, it feels like you
stepped into a 70's rock time machine.
As an added bonus a three track dvd of a live performance is included-How
modern!!!!!!
