Well, usually I wouldn’t even think twice about it, but boy don’t they just look angry to you? I think I have found one of their bands and I am pleasantly surprised by them. Who is this tough bad ass punk band you are speaking about? Death By Stereo and yes that is there name and no it doesn’t really kill you by listening to it. Their new CD rightly entitled Into The Valley Of Death is a fast paced metal infused punk album that is scarcely heard of unless you hang around the small clubs and ratty venues. It nice that a band will play what they want and not force themselves to be poppy and “mainstream” so they can make a living. Epitaph who is releasing this CD has much faith in this band because I have seen these guys before at Warped Tour. The band consists of Dan Palmer guitar and vocals, Jim Miner guitar, Efrem Schulz vocals, Todd Hennig drum, and Paul Miner bass and vocals. The album is a trip through hell and takes the listener to the threshold of their capacity to handle the ferocious guitars and slamming bass. Two great songs that stand out are “Wasted Words” and “Let Down and Alone” which really show Death By Stereo’s ability to write a catchy song without resorting to pop-music clichés and stupid anthemy anti-conformity (circa Good Charlotte). Both the songs have this powerful and energized feeling to them and are successful at getting you to nod your head even if you thin your to cool to do so. Jeff’s Breakdown: This is a nice beginning and I like this album its got a good amount of potential and I am sure after a few more listens I will enjoy it even more but as of right now it is a promising piece of work.
