At first listen you might be asking yourself, “What the fuck is this?” but rest assured this is an EP filled with avant-garde rock songs headed up by singer/sonwriter Dave Longstreth.
With influences that sound like they come from as far away as Eastern music, like Indonesian and Indian backgrounds, from start to finish it’s most likely that you haven’t heard anything like this ever, unless you’re already fans and have his previous output.
The first track, “fucked for life” is a yell and screamfest backed by what sounds like an Indonesian tribe getting ready to sacrifice a virgin. It’s that weird! The songs sound like a mix of western and some far-out eastern musical influences yet are fun and annoying to wrap your ears around. Dave Longstreth’s voice is a combination offbeat soul singer and off-key songsmith. Not in a bad way at all. The songs on this album push some of the boundaries of musical song structure while maintaining it, if that makes any sense.
While it can get annoying after awhile due to its atonal style, it’s also an interesting listen and fun. In other words, prepare for your boundaries to be pushed and pulled.
