Big chunky beats-Cool instrumentals-Dub influenced raps-Melodic pop
songs-'The message at the depth' has it all. DJ Krush certainly knows his
way around a recording studio. There is also a powerful message about
consumerism and the actions of our government on a few of the songs.
All this in about 60 minutes of music.Above all -this cd is quite enjoyable
and melodic. The dj collaborates with Sly and Robbie, The Anti-Pop
Consortium ,Anticon and many others to create a fine cohesive musical
experience.
'Trihedron' starts everything with a fine instrumental that sets to tone
for the cd. 'Taki no tabiji ( journey of time)' is a rap done by Inden. He does
the whole rap in Japanese-which was quite different and well done.' The
blackhole' is an instrumental with a great riff. 'Song for John Walker' featuring
Anticon takes a few swipes at President Bush and the old guys sending
young ones off to fight.'The lost voices' is a nice mellow collaboration with
the legendary Sly and Robbie. My favorite cut is 'Alepheua ( truthspeaking)'
with Angelina Esparza. What a great song!
The great thing about 'The message at the depth' is the overall quality
of every cut. Also, DJ Krush works with many people on this cd without
losing a coherent vision. There are many styles of music incorporated
here-but a quirky form of dub reggae is alway used as a base. It seems
kind of interesting for a Japanese dj to use Jamaican music as a basis
for his sound-but it works!
