| You could hear traces of certain ‘80s bands on this Glasgow-based quintet’s debut such as XTC and Dexys Midnight Runners. Then it comes as no surprise that this album was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, who had previously helmed those early hit records coming out of the UK in the early’80s. Please Describe Yourself is a jumble of bombast, ambitious arrangements, and harmony vocals resulting catchy pop tunes: “I Love You ‘Cause I Have To,” “Apples and Oranges,” “Pastimes and Lifestyles,” and the bouncy “Paul Newman’s Eyes.” Those songs and others are fronted by some energetic musicianship (especially by Ruth Quigley on keyboards) and the charismatic singing of Craig MacIntosh. Although a little abstract, Please Describe Yourself is one charming and quirky feel-good sounding album. Expect to hear more from this band soon. |
