Thank goodness this came to me during the summer. Although it is only ½ hour long it is fun and silly. Four best girlfriends get together to beat the heat but end up creating the heat that is “2”. With fun, catchy songs that keep going ‘round your head this cd keeps you wanting more.
These veterans of the Northwest music scene decided to try something fun and sweet. Kim Baxter, Jen Sbagia, Kathy Foster and Ari Douangpanya have all been in northwest bands. Jen was in the Softies, Kim was in Cherry Ice Cream Smile and Kathy was in Urban Legends. They bring the expertise to a quirky hobby band that makes it a solid piece of work. They can crank out a rockin’ tunes as well as drippy girly love songs. “Video Game Heart” paints a picture of the boy that can turn his love on and off just like the cursed video games he plays. Tracks like “Dear Mr. & Mrs. Troublemaker”, “Ticking Time Bomb” and “Inarticulation” are great sing-a-long with “la-la’s” and “oh-oh-oh’s”. My favorite is “Jason Lee” a dedication to the actor/skater that tells of an unrequited crush that I can totally relate to. The songs are cute and written well painting colorful pictures of young love and summer flings. While I found it fun to listen to driving to the beach, the Northwest should really feel its summer fun drippy out of each melody. If you’re a girl and have just been dumped this is the album for you. |
