What do you have to do to get on Goldfrapp’s good side? Last summer, the duo shared their latest album Supernature with the U.K. and Europe, but those of us across the pond have had to wait. At least, we can say that our waiting (impatiently for the most part) was not in vain. Allison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory have assembled another collection of tracks that are just begging for a disco ball and a dance floor. If the sight of Madonna working overly hard in her purple leotard to prove she still kick it makes you a little queasy, ask your favorite DJ to spin Goldfrapp’s “Ooh La La”. It’s the real thing – pure dance heaven.

Goldfrapp never stray too far from their comfort zone on this disc, but that’s okay for the most part. “Time Out From The World” would play exactly like old school disco, but there’s just enough bitch goddess sass in the vocals to keep it from sounding completely retro. “Fly Me Away” picks up where Madonna left off about 22 years ago. You can almost imagine Allison Goldfrapp pouting her way through the recording.

The duo does run into trouble when they put too much techno in the mix. There’s no quicker way to put the party on ice than to go from the sugar-sweet “Ooh La La” to the mechanical chords of “Ride A White Horse”. The space age beats come off sounding cold and throw the album way off center. They rebound nicely with the seductive “Satin Chic” and bonus track “Beautiful”, but I would still like to see them push the envelope a little further.

Goldfrapp has the ability to make great dance music, but I’m waiting for then to find another thrilling twist to add to their music - one that would really make them soar.
