Bristol’s sonic folk ensemble Gravenhurst, released a new EP entitled "Black Holes In The Sand." The EP has six new tracks, which show on a more polished effort than their haunting and melancholic sophomore album ‘Flashlight Seasons.’
The opening track is "Black Holes In The Sand," which start with delicate finger picked guitar with a kick drum keeping a dark marching cadence. This track features nicely added electric guitars, and familiar whispers of Nick Talbot's harmonious voice. "Black Holes In The Sand," which clocks over seven minutes has a beautiful instrumental section in the song with organs solos nestled between strummed guitars, and a steady beat.
"Flowers In Her Hair," has haunting rolling groove showcasing the amazing finger picking guitar dexterities of Nick Talbotw, as "Still Water" shows his control of an electric guitar on the upbeat dreamy jam.
"Winter Moon," is a very folksy Nick Drake-ish track that steadily bounces and sways into the folk alchemist’s rendition cover of "Diane,” by Husker Du.
The instrumental "Flashlight Seasons," named after their last release is an ethereal piece that is laden with shimmering keys and sparkling guitars, which gently bring the EP to an amazing close.
Gravenhurst are supreme musicians delivering a graceful and unique sound. I recommend them with in the highest regards. |
