It’s been ten years since this little known band called The Greenhornes started. They’ve put out three albums and a whole bunch of singles during that time and in various forms have worked with, backing several top notch talents, Holly GoLightly, Loretta Lynn, and most recently, Jack White.
The Greenhornes latest offering, the five songs EP, East Grand Blues, was produced by singer/songwriter Brendan Benson, who, whether you already know of him or not, will be joining The White Stripes own Jack White in a side-project band called The Raconteurs very soon. Influenced by 60’s classic psychedelic, Craig Fox (vocals and guitar), Patrick Keeler Battery, percussions and vocals), and Jack Lawrence (bass, organ and vocals) have stayed true to their roots while incorporating their own twist on it to create a familiar sound that is all their own.
Though only five songs, the album is a rundown of great harmonizing and good musicianship reminiscent of another time. The vibe on this EP is cool, a little bluesy, a little British, and unfortunately a little short. Being that they have also released a greatest hits CD called “Sewed Soles,” they might have been a little busy to make it bigger. But that’s okay as everyone loves a quick one from time to time! |
