If you loved the stark and beautiful debut "The Creek Drank The Cradle," then be prepared for a more full bodied sound on Iron & Wines second release "Our Endless Numbered Days." Sam Beam with the help of his sister Sarah on background harmonies and enlisted friends has transformed his lone porch folk-pop guitar sound into heavier bodied rhythmic structures.

"On Your Wings," opens the album with a muffled drip drip guitar sound keeping the beat as Sam's gentle voice washes in with an accompanied slide guitar as it slowly builds with the addition of light drums and wash board percussion.

"Naked As We Came" is a beautiful acoustic guitar song filled with the whispering sounds of Beams words, "One of us will dies inside these arms, eyes wide open naked as we came one will spread our ashes ashes around the yard."

The moody "Cinder And Smoke" has accessible southern twang, as the angelic rings of "Fever Dream," shows Sam has still the most purest of hearts with lines like "I want your flowers like babies want God's love, or maybe as sure as tomorrow will come."

"Our Endless Numbered Days," is a bit more produced than the erie noises captured on the primitive recording of "The Creek Drank The Cradle." But over all the hearty heart felt tracks more than grab you on this fine new effort. For now this Heavy Wine is one of my favorite thirst quenchers.
