Swedish export Jens Lekman returns to wax and ones and zeros this summer with his new vinyl and digital download single from his forthcoming album entitled “Night Falls Over Kortedala”.
The new song departs from past song topics like trams, taxicabs, maple leaves and washing machines only to arrive at a Drive-In Bingo game, so, clean the wax from your ears and get your cards and markers ready. “Friday Night At The Drive-In Bingo” is led by a cheerful saxophone melody, along with piano chops, a subtle accordion, and held together with up-tempo retro drumbeat you can snap your fingers to. This Swedish troubadour hasn’t lost an once of his heartfelt crooning and witty lyric delivery in which he mentions smells from 1952, awaiting cows and ostriches, biting black dogs and of course copulating bunnies. Toward the end of the track, the song builds and builds gaining tempos worthy of an RPM change on the old record player where he plots his escape to the countryside community.
Lekman holds the dreamy “RadioNRJ” above water with his voice alone. The B-side tune is backed with minimal musical accompaniment while Jens laments of a commercial-free radio station he tuned into as a youth located at 105.3 on the dial.
The new single, “Friday Night At The Drive-In Bingo,” is available as a vinyl 7-inch from Srvice.com or as a digital download here. Pick up a copy of this now to avoid chasing one down later on eBay. Will these two new tracks hold us over till September when the full length is released? This caller says B-14, I-9, N-37, G-48, O-71 . . . see you at the Drive-In!
