It must be nice to have Chad Hugo of the hot production team "The
Neptunes" as your high school buddy. That is the luck of Kenna. This son
of Ethiopian born parents has put out quite an accomplished first cd.
He has cited U2 as a major influence. To his credit there seems to be
no obvious theft from the U2 sound. The main connection seems to be that
Kenna has big aspirations and a great deal of talent.
"New Sacred Cow" starts with radio static during the song "Within
Earshot".After a while,Kennas voice appears with a fine melody.This
leads into the funk/rock tune "Freetime".Great riff mixed with a catchy
chorus.Sounds like a nice single. My favorite song was "I'm Gone".
It's kind of a modern psychedelic tune. The lyrics are both goofy and
right at the same time. Here's an example-"the volvo room writes the
songs while the giant plum plays along".It takes a lot of guts to write
a lyric like that on your first cd.
I liked the drums on "New Sacred Cow".They put hip-hop beats in
a rock context.Quite a fun idea! The slow songs on the cd are not
my favorites-but in general "New Sacred Cow" is an exceptional
debut. The production by Chad Hugo is very inventive.Kenna is a
fine singer/songwriter with a bright future.
