They have been getting a lot of alternative radio airplay for the song "Finding Out True Love Is Blind.” This fine song and four others are included on this impressive EP. The group has a wide variation between each of the cuts included on the disc. There is definitely a retro garage/glam element to their sound. Singer Jason Hill has a charisma about him. This group has the potential to do very well. The opening song Louis XIV starts off like the old classic "Wild Thing.” It is very primal driving rock tune. "Finding Out True Love Is Blind" showcases Jason Hill's vocal stylings. He comes of as a libidinal version of Mark E Smith (from The Fall). The chorus sung by Ms. Lindsey Troy is quite fine. "Marc" reminds me of an early David Bowie song. The tempo is slower with mainly drum/piano backing. The guitar solo is very 70's glam. Like Mick Ronson-but not as slick. The EP ends with a strange instrumental. "Louis Reprise" starts as a rocking rave up. Then a voice enters. Next comes a violin/dobro section. Suddenly the song becomes an "O Brother Where Art There" tune as done by a fine garage band A. fun ending. I can't wait for the first full-length CD by Louis XIV. The EP shows that the band has many different and interesting sounds. The playing is sloppy but right. Give this EP a try. J.
