Meanest Man Contest is the brainchild of Noah Blumberg of Oakland Ca..
Together with an occasional rap by MC Eriksolo- "Merit" is a fine CD. The
genre is experimental electronica mixed with jazz and hip hop touches. Only
two of the four track have significant vocals. Most of the other tracks are
fine and quirky instrumentals.
"Sorry" opens the CD with a cool electro bass line. Then there is an abrupt
shift to a break with some vocal samples. Did he get permission from Barbara
Walters to use her interview sample? A nice start! "Don't Die On Christmas"
is a short song with a great organ part. The two tracks with raps by Eriksolo
weren't as much to my liking. My favorite cut was "I Have Changed My Plans".
It has a great feel. The vocal samples are pretty funny!
"Merit" may not be for everyone. It is not very commercial. No hit singles
here. But for someone with a taste for the exotic- Meanest Man Contest
might be right up your alley. I particularly enjoyed the mix of electronic
instruments with your normal guitar/bass/organ sounds. Quarterbar a.k.a Noah Blumberg keep the sounds coming!
