When I first saw the cd cover art for "Limited Storyline Guest". I thought Mike Fellows looked like John Lydon. Would the music sound like The Sex Pistols or Public Image Limited? My guesses were completely wrong. The cd is a collection of country-folk guitar picking by a talented singer-songwriter. This type of music is not my favorite-but "Limited Storyline Guest" is a strong collection of songs in this genre.
"Zig Zag Zig" sounds like great front porch music. It's mostly acoustic guitar with some nice upright bass and light percussion,The fingers-stuck-in-the-strings electric guitar solo makes the middle part of the song climb. Mike Fellows voice is just passable-but it does fit this kind of music. The catchiest song was "Chinese Houses".It adds some well played harmonica into the mix. The yelping chorus is a lot of fun.My favorite track was the instrumental "Sunshores".It starts with a lazy acoustic guitar playing a nice melody.About halfway through the song some strange retro electronic percussion enters. A fun and weird touch.
"Limited Storyline Guest" should appeal to people who miss the early Bob Dylan records. Perhaps John Prine might be another comparison. The cd has a funky demo quality in the production values. I think this adds a lazy charm to the songs. An interesting effort by Mr Fellows.
