Silverlake's three piece disco punk, outfit Moving Units, took me by storm with their catchy new EP. The band visits old sounds like Joy Division on Prozac, Gang of Four on the Pop charts in the most upbeat and refreshing ways. Bands like The Rapture, and !!!(Chick, Chick Chick), look no further, for on tour accompaniment.
The opening track "Between Us And Them," is more addictive than most controlled substances, with it's up in your face voluminous bass-line, with scratchy guitar, and riveting drums and static filled vocals. This high strung song has fixed a number one position on my AM wake up mix.
Next track "X and Y," takes on a same approach but with a bit more jumbled, urgent intensity. This time, needling guitars taking the front line. "I Am," takes a eighties bass groove with more shrilling guitar blazing it's own trial, through the mix.
Closing track "Melodrama" the band revs up like a bottle rocket in a 10 by ten room, this time vocals take on a reckless Morrison-esque, howling against the barrage of heavy guitar, bass and drum artillery.
Wow how refreshing! Moving Units is wound so tight, they should have a court order to distribute their songs out in small doses. Fun Stuff! |
