Considering the plethora of catchy tracks on Get Up, “When we Become Silhouettes” seems like an odd choice for a single. The understated vocals and soft melodies give focus to catchy, and slightly awkward lyricism. The tune certainly does shine, but no more so than anything else this duo has put their hands on. Thankfully the vocally gifted Jenny Lewis from Spartan adds needed melody to the tune. While glimmering and aquatically flowing, the tune lacks the strength to stand on its own.
Also included within the four tracks is a Matthew Dear’s Not Scared remix of the track, which takes out the keyboarded bleeps and opts instead for strong vocals, emphasizing the tune‚s bittersweet lyrics. Included within the remaining two tracks is “Be Still My Beating Heart”, which is lyrically well crafted, but lacks the same polish heard on the duo‚s more enticing numbers. „ The Styrofoam remix of “Nothing Better” loses the infectious brightness heard on the track’s original incarnation. Really, the most notable attribute of this release isn’t the music itself but rather seeing the cover’s back proclaim that after much strife, the band has finally received full permission from the U.S. Postal Service to use their name. Amen to that. |
