This cd contains some fine lyrics and singing by the bassist Caithlin De Marrais. Most of the themes concern love and loss. Perfect fodder for pop songs. Some of the songs seem to be a little too similar to one another, but all in all 'Long Knives Drawn' is a fine release. 'Mystery And Misery' starts everything off with a whoosh. The song keeps building and building until it reaches a crashing end. My favorite track is the rocker 'Ears Ring'. The guitar playing by Kyle Fischer is quite fine. Drummer William Kuehn is no slouch either. The last song 'Situation Relation' is just Caithlins voice set against one mellow guitar. Her vocals are excellent on this evocative track. This cd is not the best thing I have heard all year- but it certainly is a fine American alt/rock release. Caithlin De Marrais can handle both the loud rock songs and the one tender song with equal poise. The ensemble playing by the group is excellent. Some good stuff coming from the Midwest. J.
