From London, England come The Rakes, yet another retro-80’s punk band. Just like every other punk band, the music is fast, formulaic, and the “singing” is just basically talking into the microphone with the rest of the band screaming in the background.

There is nothing too distinguishing about The Rakes. They just seem like the product of the record industry trying to capitalize on this recent punk revival by signing anyone that sounds just like The Ramones or The Sex Pistols. We have known for a while that talent and originality no longer matter. It is easier to sell many acts that look and sound the same then to go out on a limb and find something original and The Rakes are a perfect example of that.

The five songs on the EP (the final song is just a remix of the title song) are basically the same thing. I understand that punk music is supposed to be basic, fast, and loud but this is ridiculous. I could make a mix of any of these so-called punk revival groups and doubt that anyone could tell the difference between any of them. I know I can’t.
