Way too much coffee. Some rad ass punk rock that doesn’t have a chorus stating that the song is an anthem, praise the lord. Randy is a band that I think can be compared to the likes of Andrew WK and a bit of The Hives. They got the background organ with the hard edged lyrics that just won’t let you down. It’s catchy yet you don’t feel coaxed into liking it. After listening to the album a total of 7 times (I really liked this one, so I took my time) and I have found it is a very solid effort.
Theres is a lot that I like about “Welfare Problems”, for starters is just kind of one of those song by song build ups. It has that drinking-bar-fighting-mailbox-batting-cage-too-many-lines-of coke-and-who’s-that-next-to-me-thing, you know? Well that made no sense but its got a full range for this kind of 80’s punk revo-slash crash- punk- pop-new wave-slash-something. Yeah! It’s good though, it’s just not main stream, which, I love and you’ll love. It is almost like how Hot Hot Heat has that sound and takes the 80’s pop organ driven stuff except its more guitar and drums but it’s got that touch to it.
A couple good tracks to check out are definitely Dirty Tricks and Man in Uniform. The other tracks are great too. But these two start the album and really get you going with the sound of the band. I really have to say its just a great thing to pop it in and throw back some beers and tell girls to shut up and turn it up. It’s a good feeling and let me tell you if it you hate it, you’re a boring emo-kid with parental issues and probably some boring job at some indie art exhibit.
