This review is a bit late but anyone who is shopping for a great electronica album, purchase this is one you won't regret it. Royksopp are Norwegian Dreamy Electronic Masters Svien Berge and Tabjorn Brundland
'Melody A.M.' opens with track 'So Easy” with a voices and keyboards singing 'Who are You.' While listening your not sure if it's the keybords singing or the luscious sample of Gals and Pals, or the Cheshire Cat. The song kicks in with some plucked strings and brilliant fusion of subtle jazz, and trip-hop, with a funky bass grooves and bouncing drums keeping time to this twisted up beat lullaby.
'Eple' starts with two guys chatting and explodes into instrumental composition, of pulsating keyboards and flickering beats and spacey sounds. Royksopp remind me of Chemical Brothers on with a morphine drip on a heavenly adventure through wonderland.
Track 3, 'Sparks' enlists, female vocalist Annelli Drecker of Bel Canto, who until I read the liner notes, I was convinced was Beth Gibbons of Portishead, this composition is a trip-hop delight.
'In Space' is lush in arrangement of trinkling syths this song reminds me of a fractal-esque version of Four Tet.
Track five, 'Poor Leno' and eight 'Remind Me' enlist a fellow Norwegian on vocals, Erland Oye of Kings of Convenience.
'Poor Leno' the Royksopp single is a ethereal dance hit, with reverbed dreamy vocals by Erland drifting through a danceable beat, elegant percussion, sampled guitar and chilling organs and keys.
'Remind Me' is campy folk electronica tune heavily influenced by Kings of Convenience’s Erland Oye.
'A Higher Place' takes flight with a dream like flow with lavish orchestrations of haunting syths along voice samples of a worldly voice repeating 'A Higher Place” in this chill out masterpiece.
The funky and dark 'Night Out' breaks ground with a Daft Punk meets Thievery Corporation blend, as it metamorphosis’s into darker territories with heavy string arrangements.
The luscious calm 'She's So' is melodic journey of pitch bent keys and melting saxophones against a galloping drum beat reminiscent of France's duo AIR.
'Melody A.M.' finally comes to close with a clock ticking drum line with spacey church keys leading into a new pensive composition with delayed syths and bass, which come to life and then decay.
A bonus disc comes with 'Melody A.M.' containing 4 remixes and 3 videos. Please get this disc and enjoy, my copies almost worn out! |
