Guest vocals are added by the likes of Brian Molko (Placebo), Nenneh Cherry, Kelis ,Jokate Benson Rodney P. and others. The result is a very mature and diverse electronic cd. Timo Maas has been around the dance/electronic scene since his emergence from Dusseldorf,Germany in the early eighties. He has been primarily known as a dj and remix artist over the years. I was pleasantly surprised by the originality and maturity of "Pictures". The opening cut "Slip In Electro Kid" has that tap on the microphone rhythm made popular by Radiohead. The song is a building electro-instrumental. "Pictures" is a memorable and creepy song helped by the wonderful voice of Brain Molko. "Release" features rap/toasting by Rodney P. paired with Spanish/Arabic guitars. Sounds strange- but it works. "Like Siamese" is a great rock song sung by Brain Molko. My favorite song on the cd is "First Day". It has the great line "This is the first day of the rest of your life------don't fuck it up". A great piece of electronic funk/rock. It should be a hit single. The best thing about "Pictures" is the lushness of the sound design. Every sound is amazing and well placed in the mix. Usually electronic cds tend to be bland and faceless –but "Pictures" is very consistent and powerful. Despite the use of many vocalists- the quality of the songs and production help tie every aspect of the cd together. "Pictures" is a winner. J.
