The Tindersticks formed in Nottingham England in 1992.After quite
a few cds-the boys still have it."Waiting for the moon" has an interesting
late 60's feel to the music.Much of this has to do with the liberal use of
strings and oohing/aahing background vocals.Kind of the Jimmy Webb
approach to pop music. The vocals by Stuart Staples are both smoky
and heartfelt. The band provides a subtle backing for the fine songs.
"Until the morning comes" is a tender murder ballad. It's kind of a
darker version of "By the time i get to Phoenix"-that old 60's song.
"Say goodbye to the city" is kind of a brooding rocker that builds in
it's intensity.Great organ work on that one."4.48 psychosis" has spoken vocals based on a play by Sarah Kane. The almost subliminal vocals fit the song very well."Sometimes is hurts" is a country/folk duet between Stuart Staples and French-Canadian vocalist Lhasa De Sala. They seem to be very much at ease with each other on this fine tune.
"Waiting for the moon" is a fine addition to the Tindersticks catalog.
Their music would appeal to fans of Nick Cave or maybe Arab Strap.
This cd would make fine late night listening.
