The now legendary punk compilation from Epitaph records is now known as Unsound. So, rest in peace Punk-O-Rama. Unsound is a mix of punk, emo, screamo, hardcore, and hip hop from the eclectic roster at Epitaph. Unfortunately, most of these songs are from older albums, which sometimes makes the album boring and sluggish. Not all of Unsound is worth dumping though. There are moments of classic and inspiring punk and hip hop. The Bouncing Souls, one of the label's staples makes an appearance with their new song "The Gold Song". A feel good bouncy inspiring punk anthem to their true believers. Bad Religion also are featured. How could they not, with an older song, "Los Angeles is Burning", the rallying cry for punks to wake up and get moving before its too late. From the ashes of Epitaph band Hot Water Music, the Draft make their first appearance on any record. A little less edgier and raw than their former band, the Draft with "New Eyes Open", bring heartfelt lyrics, and a more melodic mature band to the forefront. Legendary punks Pennywise are here with their stand up and fight anthem "Knocked Down". A straightforward punk tune, with soaring guitars, thumping drums, and the screaming breakdown. The only difference between Punk-O-Rama and Unsound is the hip hop. Dangerdoom is featured with "Benzie Box", and Sage Francis with "The Buzz Kill". Two extremely talented rappers, but just out of place on a compilation from a mostly punk label. They are just thrown in the middle of the album, and will turn away the people who are buying this in the first place. It is a good thing that is the first installment of Unsound because now it can be improved on. Forget about what you knew about Punk-O-Rama, because this is a whole new compilation.
