The dramatic opener 'Killer Eyes,' is filled with lush guitar chimes,deep bass and distorted guitar and keyboard overlays as De Mare's fills the space with her powerfull tone. The jazzy and airy 'Storm' takes on a more lurking trip-hop groove with light pitter-pat drums, ambient keys, spacious bass and beautiful guitar shimmers, as De Mare complements the soft orchestrations of the song with her sultry vocals. Still wetting the pallette is the dreamy groove of 'Safe Word' which closes the disc, leaving you yearing to hear more from this elcectic duo. A teenage fan of Guthrie's from The Cocteau Twins music as well as De Mare's ethereal voice from the Great Expectations Soundtrack, I was pleased with the richly atmospheric tracks. The Single and album were released by Bella Union records, which was founded in 1997 by Twins bandmates Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde. The disc also includes a QuickTime Video of 'Killer Eyes.' Fans of 4AD and trip-hop movement get ready to screw in your colored light bulbs and find party favors for a pleasant evening indoors.
