However, any venue featuring a band like Vue will almost certainly offer one-dollar pints of Pabst on tap. So the question is this: How is a listener riding the trough of a serious Blue Ribbon cross-eye going to tell the difference between an average Muddy Waters-meets-Lou Reed band and an above average one? The differences are subtle in the best of conditions. If you want to test it out for yourself, I'm sure there are a dozen of these groups playing in your city tonight. If nothing else, the proliferation of bands like Vue bears testament to the fact that playing this style of music is a lot of fun for the musicians. And Vue's members probably had a good time putting together their first RCA LP 'Babies are for Petting'. But fun on the stage does not always translate to fun on the Aiwa at home. In fact, the big name production team seems determined to wash out whatever texture the tunes have with what sounds suspiciously like the 'going through a tunnel' effect on your Playstation 2. The LP’s live cut “Find Your Home” is the stand out, if you’re paying close attention. I can only imagine that viewing a performance of Vue would be a good time. A live show might be a good place to showcase the sweet Chevron windbreaker and John Deer cap you picked up at Goodwill the other day.
