This two cd set consists one eastern and one western disc each. The set was assembled by Leigh Wood. He has done fine job compiling these fine tracks. The quality from track to track is truly top notch. The music is mostly instrumental with a few vocals and samples thrown in. You might ask- What is the zen connection? The liner notes explain that zen and music are both beyond words and that listening leads to pathways of discovery. Sounds kind of HIGH CONCEPT to me - but 'Zen Connection' is a fine world music/chill cd. 'Panorama' by Amanaska starts with arabic wail-then moves into a middle eastern funk groove-followed by a great syth break. An outstanding track. 'Dimdanana' by Jasmon has a treated acoustic guitar that carries the melody-with a nice string part in the middle. 'Electra (short chill mix)' by Airstream starts with a simple keyboard figure-with a nice laid back rhythm track. My favorite track was 'Elgarhythms' by Ornament. It was probably the most quirky song on the western cd. The bass line reminded me of the early Cocteau Twins. The drum track was fun. The treated electric guitar didn't hurt either. 'Zen Connection' reminds me of the compilation cds put out by Putumayo World Music. Interesting music from around the world that would be hard to find on your own. The only artist on this set that I had heard of before was LTJ Bukem. Some of the stuff on this set is a little too new-agey for my taste-but the quality of the music is quite high.
