Zero 7 is the creation of producers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker.This UK based team worked with The Pet Shop Boys and Robert Plant in the 90's.Zero 7 seems like a producer driven studio creation."When It Falls" employs many guest vocalists on the nine tracks with lyrics.The other two songs are jazz/space instrumentals.Like many studio based efforts-I found "When It Falls" to be quite slick and well produced-but not very exciting.

The first track"Warm Sound" has vocals by Mozez. He has a kind of Seal-like quality to his vocals on this track.The music reminded me of Air.The instrumentation is quite professional.Nice flute solo. "Somersault" is a nice folk pop song sung by Sia Furler. Kind of adult contemporary stuff.You could see Jewel singing this one. My favorite song on the cd was"In Time".It's a nice country folk song sung by Sophie Barker.The instrumentation is just mellow guitar/bass/drum piano with some laid back vocals.Well done.

My main problem with "When It Falls" was the bland professionalism of the whole affair. It seems like a producer based project with guest vocalists.I didn't get the feeling of a band based effort. I wasn't quite sure what kind of sound Zero 7 was going for.Sometimes it's jazzy other times it's kind of electronic.The whole effort did't excite me very much. Slick and professional-but not something to get all worked up about.
