On Friday May 31, Los Angeles fans of Manchester's Badly Drawn Boy were treated to a free hour long set at Amoeba Records on Sunset by Damon Gough. Damon, aka Badly Drawn Boy gave the 300 plus in attendance a heart felt set of new and old material in the heels of his completion of a proper third studio LP this week at Cello Studios.
Armed with only an acoustic guitar and Casio keyboard, Damon played songs from the upcoming release, the About a Boy soundtrack (which he did the entire score), the critically acclaimed Hour of Bewilderbeast and tidbits from the highly sought after EP's 1,2 and 3.
During the set, nervous Damon fidgeted with his iconic beanie as he plucked through the set thanking Los Angeles on numerous occasions for being so supportive and bashing Aaron‚s records for not carrying any on BDB‚s music or even knowing who he was. If it weren't for the time restraints, those in attendance could have possibly been on the verge of a very long BDB set-he is known to play for up to 3 hours + as he continued to seek more time as he dipped into his arsenal of beers.
It wasn't towards this part of the set BDB became comfortable with the overwhelming turnout and had to end the set with a ten-minute thank-you to everyone and even dished out roses to all the people along the front of the stage, male and female alike. After the show, Damon signed autographs and answered questions for over two hours. Check BDB on the web at badlydrawnboy.co.uk
