Due to bad timing and subway confusions we arrived late and caught The Flaming Lips closing their set with 'Do You Realize?,' complete with spinning disco balls and tons of furry creatures dressed in animal costumes running through the crowd, and front man Wayne Coyne, yielding a spot light and targeting audience members. The Lips are amazing live!
After many minutes of break down time of the Lips stage gear, Beck dawned on the stage with a black curtain covering band members to have more of an acoustical setting.
Beck started the Show with an acoustical 'Cold Brains' off Mutations, and some more mellow tracks off his new album 'Sea Change.' Later Beck grabbed the crowd with a Harmonica jam were the whole audience kept cadence with some hand clapping.
Beck then announced he was being backed by the Lips and busted in a acoustic cover of the Flaming Lips 'Do you realize?,' then the curtain opened to reveal his backing members joining in mid way while performing 'Golden Age.'
The Lips added to the amazing performance of Midnight Vultures tracks, 'Nicotine & Gravy' and 'Get Real Paid.' as Beck switch gears from heart broken puppy to late night disco dancer, competing with Travolta's dance moves form Saturday Night Fever.
The band left the stage except for Beck who sat on the floor with only a organ and played an Dead Can Dance influenced version of 'Nobody's Fault' off Mutations.
The band performed many songs then left the stage and returned with an encore set of 'Two Turn Tables and a microphone' and then ended the Show with 'Loser' as Beck wore a lighted ,white space suite.
Good Times in the City.
