The Living Room, Santa Barbara, CA

Combining the radical politics of CRASS, the style savvy of The Make-Up, and the raw energy of The Hives, The (International) Noise Conspiracy are the anti-capitalist freedom fighters of the Swedish garage rock revolution. With their matching DIY punk outfits, dyed black hair, and unwavering ability to rock, if Marxists went mod, I think that they would look something like this.
Despite the fact that Santa Barbara’s little all-ages venue The Living Room was the last stop on their Plea for Peace Take Action Tour, T.(I).N.C. commanded the stage with passionate virtuosity, pleasing the crowd with a set list packed with favorites including “Born into a Mess”, “Smash It Up”, and “Capitalism Stole My Virginity”. The turnout for the show was great—The Living Room was hot, sweaty, and packed with local college kids and hipsters. Charismatic front man Dennis Lyxz(c)n incited the young crowd to feverish pummeling as he climbed up onto amps and stage-dove into to the audience. Like an anarchist Joan Jett, Sara rocked on organs and guitars with an air of impenetrable coolness, the crush-object of both indie boys and girls alike. The crowd pushed their way forward toward their leftist rock anti-heroes, who rocked so hard their sweat dripped off their guitars and onto the stage.
I left the show that night sticky with sweat (other peoples, my own?), and giddy with inspiration and excitement. After years of listening to all the jaded scenesters whine about bands “selling out”, it is refreshing to hear this self-styled political rock band, which, according to their website, has “no ambition to be politically correct or keep their ideas underground”. With their intelligent lyrics and rock n’ roll fury, T.(I).N.C. deserves all the media attention they will undoubtedly receive in their quest to “produce the soundtrack to the ongoing war against capitalism”.
